Senior Infants – foxes and building dens and playing in the rain – resilience

A key aim of Forest School is to build resilience in our learners, helping them develop the confidence and adaptability needed to face challenges both in nature and in everyday life. Rainy days offer some of the richest opportunities for this kind of growth. When the weather turns wet, children learn that a little discomfort doesn’t have to spoil their enjoyment — instead, it can become part of the adventure. They have opportunities to problem-solve when the ground is muddy or their shelter leaks, and how to keep a positive attitude when things don’t go exactly as planned. Through these experiences they frequently feel a sense of pride in overcoming small challenges together.

As one child walked through the wishing trees at the end of today’s session, he cheerfully wished for rain every day of Forest School. The children are learning to embrace the natural world as it comes, with curiosity, joy, and resilience — the very qualities that Forest School strives to nurture.
