School Garden Club Update!

🌿

We’ve been busy in the garden this week!

We’re turning our strawberry runners into new plants, giving the raised beds a good weed, and getting them ready for garlic and onion planting soon.

Our high raised bed is looking great — it’s now full of self-seeded winter purslane and lamb’s lettuce, and the pumpkins are coming along really well!

🎃

We’re also excited to share that a surprise mix of vegetable plug plants will be arriving in the next week or two, along with our new free raised beds, onion and garlic sets, and some extra seeds from the GROW project

🌱

National Tree Day: On 2nd October, we received a free Scots Pine sapling to plant in our school grounds! We’re looking forward to planting it with the children next week and watching it grow over the coming years.

🌲

Pond project news: We had a visit from one potential contractor and are awaiting a quotation. We need at least one more contractor to quote—if you have recommendations or someone who has done similar work for you recently, please contact Sarah Sheeran at sarahsheeran@gmail.com. We’re also delighted to welcome our DLR Biodiversity Officer and an amphibian expert to the school this week to advise on our pond restoration.

🐸

GIY GROW grant: We’ve been awarded four new small raised beds, plus soil, seeds, and learning resources from the GIY GROW project—amazing! The beds require assembly. We’re hoping to arrange a meitheal in the coming weeks (on a weekend day) to install them, so any DIYers please get in touch with Sarah if you can help.

Lots to look forward to in the garden — thank you everyone for helping it thrive!
