6th Class continue their Forest School journey
As part of 6th class’ sessions, they will have the opportunity to develop skills to support them in becoming helpful assistants for Junior Infants and 1st Class in the summer term. It is a chance to develop responsibility, confidence and empathy, while supporting younger children in their own woodland adventures.
During their sessions, 6th class can learn some of these skills including:
- Putting up hammocks safely and securely
- Building, testing and taking down rope bridges
- Making wild teas
- Supporting handwashing routines
- Helping with activities and tidy-up
- Assisting during sit spot
- Sharing and telling stories in the woods
- Explaining and leading games clearly
Over the next few weeks they might also develop the subtler skills — how to enter into the observation and curiosity of younger children and how to ask thoughtful questions that deepen exploration. It is truly joyful for us as Forest School leaders and teachers to see them develop their unique style of leadership and be truly helpful for the younger children (and the Forest School leaders!).
