Forest School is in Killiney Hill on a Friday. There are three groups, the teachers are Liz, Jenny and Ms. Maguire. We have done four weeks and the weather hasn’t been that great. We are doing knife work and making spears, we are also learning about the Fianna and we are learning to walk without breaking a twig to spy on the other groups. We are learning how to make forts out of sticks and logs and to put up hammocks. We have a lot of fun.

When we first went up the hill we went somewhere I’d never been before. It’s now my favourite place to go. The first day almost everyone enjoyed a natural bobsleigh track, they also found a natural bobsleigh! Ciarán and I started building a fort, we put up the hammock and ropes and when it was time to leave the forest we went with Amy to the playground. After the walk home we were hungry and tired so we had lunch. I love Forest School because you can be creative and make dens, weapons, enjoy the sounds of the birds, find animal tracks and notes from the Grandmother tree, making maps and making new friends. Ms. Maguire is a very good Forest School teacher. I enjoy making tea and exploring the forest, it’s really fun. Sometimes we find things like wooden pickaxes and bows, Max, Ciarán and I remade the fort with wooden chairs and tables. It’s an amazing fort and I love it. Whether it’s raining or sunny I hope we do something fun.

We are four weeks into Forest School. We went up in the morning, while we are waiting we played a game and then we started going up the hill and we were naming plants while going up the hill. Then we started putting up our hammocks and Carl was in there for too long that he turned into a baby and we tried to get him out but he wouldn’t get out. Then we started making spears with knives. We also were learning how to walk with no sound. Then Jenny (our leader) taught us how to make bow and arrows, mine did not really work but at least I tried! We also made a shelter and we ate our lunch in it and it almost blew down as it was so windy. Then we did sit spot and my sit spot was on the cliff, we had to say what we are grateful for then and it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUN!

Last Friday we learned how to make spears, arrows and bows. Then we played wars together. We also climbed trees with ropes. My friends and I made a huge den for our games- it was really wide. It had a roof and a chimney bit.

For four Fridays we have been going up to Killiney Hill to do Forest School. First, we meet up and play a fun game like Bat and Moth or Stoat. Then after about 10mins we go up to base camp and there’s a big hill that we go up to get there and there’s a bunch of dogs that follow us up there. When we get there Ms. Maguire sets up hammocks and lets us do knife work and build shelters and there’s a big hill that my friends and I run down. Later we go to sit spot and we have tea, some of the teas we’ve had are holly tea or nettle tea. After that we go down to the park and then go home.

We have restarted Forest School as fourth class. I have Liz as a teacher. Over the past 4 weeks we have made different teas out of nature, made a trapeze, bows and arrows and lots more! In my group there are 9 people including me. I love Forest School and always can’t wait for Fridays!!!

In Forest School we got in three different groups all of the groups went to different base camps. In my one it was very rainy and wet so we made a tent. After the rain we had freeplay for a few hours then we set up hammocks. It was so fun. Then we did knife work- I made the sharpest spear. After that we set up a balance beam and had sit spot. Finally we had tea and said what we were grateful for.

We have done four weeks in Forest School so far. We do it up in Killiney Hill. It’s been really fun so far. We played games like Stoat and tried to walk like the Fianna up to base camp. I am in Jenny’s group and it’s so much fun! I look for these pinecones that squirrels nibbled. Jenny also puts up hammocks. It’s so relaxing.
We go the this really nice view to have lunch and after lunch we get some more free time and then we had nettle and gorse tea. After that we had our sit spot. I usually have it in the view. Finally, we leave our base camp and sometimes we go into the playground and then at about half eleven we walk back to school.

So we arrive there and we all kind of chat and mess, then the teacher calls us and we line up in a circle. Then the teacher explains the game and we try it out. After that we walk up to the base. Then we drop down our bags and go the Grandmother tree to try to find the note she leaves. After that Luke, Mark and Vito run down this muddy hill and have fun. We do that for like and hour or two. Then we have lunch and the teacher tells us a poem, after that we have another hour of free play. Then the teacher calls us for sit spot and then we pack up and go back.

Every Friday we go to Forest School at 8:30am SHARP! Then normally we play a game before we go to our base camp. In our base camp we have a big open area with trees and rocks, Grandmother tree and a beautiful view. We make spears with knives and bows. We put up hammocks and I lied in it for ages straight then finally we did sit spot. Which is when you pick a spot to sit and relax. Then after we had tea. After that we packed up and walked down and that’s it.
Carl 4th Class

We walked so quietly up to base camp and then we heard a woodpecker! We used our binoculars to help spot it.
