Junior Infants

Autumn has arrived in Junior Infants!

We have been learning about signs of Autumn and it has been wonderful to see all the lovely Autumn natural objects coming in each morning. We went on an Autumn nature hunt around school too. Check out our (very busy) nature area:

The children have been observing Autumn colours and using these in their artwork.

This week we also learned about hedgehogs. We found out some interesting facts about them including the fact that they eat birds’ eggs! With their buddies, the children made clay hedgehogs…making sure to include spines for protection and a snout for sniffing.

In art we have been learning about primary and secondary colours and we learned how to mix colours. Take a look at our colour caterpillars:

The children have really enjoyed the  Oíche Shamhna  (Halloween) gaeilge topic. They particularly liked singing this song in their spookiest voices:

Púca = ghost

Cailleach = witch

Senior Infants

Senior Infants have been very busy gathering fresh produce for their Farmer’s Market. They were all very excited to be bringing real food into the classroom.

At the Farmer’s Market, the children had a wonderful time exploring, playing, and learning. They got to see, touch, and smell fresh fruits and vegetables. This sparked their curiosity about where food comes from.

The children took turns being farmers, shoppers, and working the tills. They practiced counting, sorting, and using money, all while developing their social and communication skills.

First Class

1st class are having a great time engaging with the new maths curriculum. We recently purchased a lot of new maths resources and the children have been really enjoying their ‘playful maths’ time. Being able to fund these materials makes a big difference to children’s learning. Being able to physically touch, manipulate, and explore materials means they engage more deeply with the maths curriculum. With them, children can engage in various learning styles which help them to understand and remember concepts.

Happy faces in 1st as they learn about shapes, patterns and numbers.

Second Class

As part of our multi-denominational ethos, children across the school have been learning about Divali. Diwali is an important religious festival originating in India. People often think of Diwali as a Hindu festival, but it is also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains. Divali is a celebration about good triumphing over evil. The word Diwali means “row of lights” in an Ancient language of India, called Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas.

Check out the beautiful diyas created by 2nd class.

2nd class also took a spooky journey across the curriculum as they learnt about skeletons! From art and science to movement and language.
