What a joy it was to meet so many families at the Spring Market last Saturday. We were blessed with typical April weather – some showers at the start followed by warm sunshine. Huge thanks to the PTA for the preparation involved. Pictures speak a thousand words – some random shots below:
€4,375 was taken in at the fair in the 2 hours.
Approximately €830 of this was raised through student stalls (Just under €500 via the 4th classers!).
€141 was collected as Ukraine specific donations.
The balance of c.€3,500 was raised by the gate entry and class stalls which is a whopping c.€400 on average per stall in just 2hrs!
Expenses paid on the day €90 (more may come in)
Net Income €4,375
This translates to a €2,258 donation to Ukraine and €2,117 for the school!
What a result!
Connecting with the school community is priceless, of course. Two hours of chats and conversations reminds us of the value of the strong sense of belonging we enjoy at DSP. Thanks to the PTA for their resilience and energy in turning a postponed Winter Market into the fabulous outdoor Spring experience! Small wonder DSP children can organise stalls so successfully when parents and friends model empathy, leadership, creativity and teamwork.
Who knows their DSP history and can recognise one of the founding members? Dr Aine Hyland visited the Spring Market and enjoyed meeting with some new parents and staff. Thanks to Aine and the many founders who changed the face of education in Ireland by setting up DSP in 1978. There are now over 90 Educate Together (ET) primary schools and close to 20 ET secondary schools in Ireland providing equality-based, inclusive schools.
