Buddies

There are so many great activities going on in school it’s hard to choose what to include. There was great excitement in four classes last week when buddies met each other. For those of you new to the school, we have a tradition of pairing 6th class students with Senior Infants and 5th class with Junior Infants. The older children look after and play with the younger ones and, over the course of the year, help them with different projects.

We welcomed GAA coaches, choir leader, dance teacher and artist to work with various classes in the past week.

Exploring texture

It’s great to have extra people working in the school as this gives teachers a chance to observe students trying out different tasks, and to get to work with them in smaller groups.

We’ve had two days of incessant rain this week which has meant no outdoor play since 8.30am Monday morning. We hope clearer weather stays with us for the remainder of the week! Everyone feels so much better with fresh air, exercise and free play time with friends.

The PTA AGM was well attended last night. Reports on last years events and finances were given by Chairs and Treasurer. A huge thanks to Sinéad and Rhoda who have done such a great job over the past few years as Co Chairs of the group. They are stepping down from that role. A new Chairperson will be elected at the next PTA meeting.

Here are some pictures of art work done in the first month if you haven’t had a chance to drop in to the school.

Back to School

First day at school for Junior Infants

The fine weather is contributing to a very positive back to school experience for us at DSPNS. The new Junior Infants are settling in very well. Other classes are proud to have moved on to the next class level, and children are enthusiastic about the different expectations in their new classes.

Meeting friends again first day back at school

Our Information Meetings for parents/guardians have been very successful. They provided an opportunity for teachers to share information on new practices and explain individual class routines regarding homework, timetables etc., and for parents/guardians to ask questions. Thanks to everyone who attended the meetings. A special thanks to teachers who did the extra preparation at this busy time of year. Leaflets from the meetings  are available from the office for anyone who was not free to attend.

Board games in 2nd class

It is heartening to see DSP traditions continue. As always, there is a tremendous variety to the range of activities children participate in during the school day. Many classes and corridors are decorated by beautiful artwork done in class. Infants teachers are proud to be sending children down to the Principal’s office to show their careful handwriting. The Halla is busy with PE, drama, choir and history lessons.

Making Mummies in 3rd class

Many of the activities we enjoy would not be possible without the wonderful fundraising done by the PTA. The aim of the PTA is to encourage parents/guardians to meet and get to know one another and to create a sense of community and support.

The PTA AGM will be held in the Halla next Tuesday 25th September at 7.30pm.

Cheese and wine will be served after the meeting. We would especially like to welcome new parents/guardians.
