Failte ar ais go Dalkey School Project NS!

Welcome Back!

1 September 2010

What’s New?

Tá fáilte romhaibh go léir ar ais tár eís na laetheanta saoire.  We extend a particular welcome to all new children and their parents/guardians.  We hope you will be happy with us.

Summer Activities

Essential electrical took place to enable us to make use of the new technology installed. Many classrooms were painted, shelving was restored, brushes and pans were purchased, steps were re-capped in the Halla. Hedges and grass were cut and raked. The garden was given a fabulous clearing. Thanks to all who organised and helped with these jobs, in particular Liz, Michael, Tom and Ursula.

We are delighted to have our planning application for an extension accepted. A huge thanks to BOM members and BCDH Architects for achieving this aim. We will have a very busy year ahead!

Many members of the BOM attended meetings regarding new windows and general cleaning/maintenance issues during the summer holidays. Our sincere thanks to them for their time and commitment, and to Gottstein Architects.

We hope we can all work together to keep our school clean and tidy, and to maintain a positive learning environment throughout the year.

As we begin a new academic year, it is important we all understand practical routines:

-       School Calender: All children go home at 12 noon Wed, Thurs and Fri 1 – 3 Sept inclusive this week to facilitate planning and meetings. Junior Infants classes will end at 12 noon from Wednesday 1st to Wednesday 8th September 2010 inclusive. Junior Infant children will attend school at 8.30am – 1.10pm from Thursday 9th September 2010. A full school calendar will be issued as soon as possible.

-       Entering and Leaving School: School opens at 8.30a.m. Children (or parents) should not enter school before this time and should not be in the classroom until there is a teacher present. This is a requirement for school insurance. Children should use the designated door for entering and leaving the building i.e. front door for 5th/6th class; door beside reception for 3rd/4th class:  the outside steps and patio door for J.I./S.I./ 1st/2nd.  The fire door at the bottom of the inside stairs is only for emergency exit and should not be used.

-       Safety: Children’s safety is vital. Parents/Guardians, please remind children to watch for moving cars at drop off and pick up times. Children must use paths between the car parks. Drivers, please drive with extreme caution.

-       Parking: Parking can be a problem for ourselves and our neighbours. It is difficult for neighbours to enter/leave their driveways if cars are parked both sides of, and opposite to, their entrances. Please respect their right to access their homes at all times. Consider parking at Hillcourt Road and walking a few metres to the school gates – or check out opportunities for car pooling.

-       Walking Buses: Please investigate the possibility of encouraging your child to walk/cycle to school.  Pottery Road, Ballinclea Heights, Spar Glenageary Roundabout were some of last year’s meeting points. Please do not block staff car parking area at any time.

-       Lost Property: There are several items of lost property in the Hall. Please check them for any items your children may have mislaid.

Finally, please let us know if you have a change of address, phone number, mobile, emergency contact. Medical records should be updated also. It is imperative for your children’s safety that records are up to date.

Thank you for your cooperation with all of the above. I look forward to seeing you all over the coming weeks.
